Swallow

Our garden is "Alive" right now with the birds building their nests. I look forward every year to the same ones returning once again to make their homes here. This sly fellow makes the perfect little nest for his darling and protects her faithfully until the babies are out of their home. This picture cracks me up! As if he is saying "You want a piece of me"? They are such smart little birds and every year I play this game with them where I take the clumps of dog hair that I brush out of our dog Sadies winter coat...blow them up in the air where they soar like feathers...the birds swoop down and come from everywhere to sweep them up into their beaks. They carry the little clumps of hair off to build their nests with. It is an amazing thing to watch and I can't help but think...what cozy little nests they are making for their young with my dog and horses hair....;-)

Marcie tht is the sweetest story! I love the nesting season too. We had Killdee in our front yard and she was on eggs.. but sadly something got them before they hatched as they just vanished... I greive for that bird mamma and her sorrow~

I love that cute picture. I watch birds in our backyard also. That is an amazing story about the dog fur. That would be so interesting to watch.

Oh...that is sad about your little Killdeer. We have one that lays her eggs out in our pasture every year. Same thing happened to her eggs last year. I felt so bad for her...but she is back again this year so hopefully everything will be fine this time around. ;-)

Yes...the birds constantly amaze me with their charm and hard work. What started this years ago was actually some duck feathers that the wind blew up in the air and I noticed the birds playing tag with each other over the feathers. (We had a silly little duck named Daffy that thought he was a dog LOL) He would preen his feathers and the swallows would swoop down and pick them up, drop them in the air and then start playing with them. It was really something to watch... ;-)
